John Dittrick is a New York City-based stylist and designer working across commercial, editorial, and residential spaces.

John grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, in a house full of things, with a mother who loved catalogues and kept them in every room. He spent his youth meticulously arranging the furniture in his Playmobil dollhouse, tucking his bed sheets in just right, and developing a love for home. John studied Theatre Arts at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where, in addition to training as a performer, he discovered a knack for set design. As a young professional in LA, he honed his craft on stages and film sets, before moving to New York and landing in the photo world. As the lead in-house stylist at West Elm’s Brooklyn photo studio, John developed a nuanced and precise understanding of product and lifestyle photography.

Now, as a freelance artist working in commercial and editorial photography, John marries a strategic eye with a personal touch. Similarly, John takes on interior design projects with a respect for function and lifestyle, while remaining attuned to the unique humanity and personality of each home-dweller. Recently, John has begun sharing his design perspective on camera, extending his considered point of view on style and living to a wider audience.

Through it all, John continues to approach his work with curiosity, intention, and a deep respect for both the creative process and the experience of building a home.

In regards to this experience, John believes at once that our things matter greatly and not at all, that we make our homes around us but also within us, and that the heart of any space is the people within. It’s the people that matter most – but good style is certainly nice!
